As you saw on our Home Page, we are Curt, Stephanie, Madlyn, and Matthew, our latest edition. We've each got our own sections of this website, and you're welcome to click on the links above to find out more about each of us.
Our home is in a nice little neighborhood called
Noble, which is located among some of the
older suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Noble was originally part of the estate of Samuel
Noble, who owned considerable land in the area. Upon his
death just before the turn of the century, a portion of his
holdings were sold to William Messer who subdivided
and developed the properties. Proximity to the
train
and to the shopping in Jenkintown
(you can walk to both from our house) made Noble
attractive to these first "suburbanites" who
had moved out from Philadelphia to Noble. The community
still bears the name of its original owner.
Today, Noble is a wonderful neighborhood of older
homes. Most were built not too long after 1900,
although there are a number of homes built after that
as more land became available in the area.
We have found Noble a very happy, friendly place to
live. The homes are on modest plots and are not set
too far back from the street so that front porches can
provide the venue for a cordial "hello." There is a
rejuvenation currently underway in the neighborhood as
young families have begun to move in and make Noble
their own.
There are always kids at
play outside when the weather is nice.
Often, when people ask us where we live, we will tell
them that we live in Jenkintown. Our home is less than
a mile from the center of
Jenkintown Borough -
we can even walk into town for dinner if we like.
Jenkintown was once a busy shopping district before the
advent of the mall, and has recently begun to recapture
some of its former glory. There are a growing number of
interesting and unique shops and restaurants along the
walkable borough streets.
In reality, we live halfway between Jenkintown and
Abington. Our house has a Jenkintown mailing address
but is located in
Abington Township. Abington is much bigger than the
Borough of Jenkintown,
so it doesn't have as much of a well-defined town center
as Jenkintown. The Abington Memorial Hospital
is a place around which a lot revolves in Abington,
so that's why we say we live halfway between the two.

address, please visit the Contact
section of our website.
[Much of the information on the communities around us
comes from a good friend of ours, David Rowland. He is
the president of the Old York Road
Historical Society, which has published a pictorial
history of this section of suburban Philadelphia.]
There are a number of things that the Equis enjoy together as a family. We are invloved with the Grace Presbyterian Church in Jenkintown. We love to spend time outdoors, especially hiking and backpacking in the colder months. Our goal is to complete the Appalachian Trail section-by-section throughout the course of our lives. (Thus far, we've hiked most of Pennsylvania and New Jersey together, so we've got quite a way to go!) We are also interested in the preservation of older suburbs like Jenkintown, and are trying to do our part by restoring a 100-year old Dutch colonial house which had been converted into apartments after World War II.
